Call for Family Diplomacy Ambassadors

Learning Life is now recruiting Family Diplomacy Ambassadors (FDAs) to help recruit Family Diplomats (FDs) in their city/town and country.

Learning Life is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit developing innovative learning communities in order to widen and deepen participation in democracy and diplomacy in our increasingly interconnected yet divided world.

Learning Life’s Family Diplomacy Initiative (FDI) is an ambitious, long-term, grassroots effort to connect, train and empower a growing international corps of family diplomats to participate in decision-making at local to global levels.  We envision a world more connected and caring because every family has one or more family diplomats, and those citizen diplomats advocate effectively via nonprofits, businesses, media and governments for the needs, concerns and aspirations of families worldwide.

FDAs are socially connected volunteers across the world who help recruit volunteer Family Diplomats (FDs) and fellow FDAs in their community and country. FDAs can live anywhere in the world, but should have a strong internet connection, speak, read and write English at a level that allows you to understand and participate fully in conversation, and be motivated to help recruit families in their community and country to participate in FDI.   FDAs should also have a Facebook profile, where a lot of FDI communications happen, and join FDI on Facebook.

FDs are one or preferably more family members anywhere in the world who live together, have a strong internet connection, speak, read and write English at a level that allows you to understand and participate fully in conversation, and are interested in connecting with others across the world, learning together, and developing citizen diplomacy and family knowledge as well as communication skills to become effective international advocates for families.

FDAs are expected to volunteer 4-8 hours/month for at least 1 year: 3-7 hours/month recruiting FDs in their community or country + 1 hour/month meeting online via Zoom with fellow FDs and Learning Life staff to discuss recruitment tactics and progress.

The benefits of being an FDA include:

(1) Make new friends across the world.

(2) Be part of an international FDA Team sharing, learning and working together to help make the world more connected and caring through family diplomacy.

(3) Gain concrete, resume-building experience in citizen diplomacy.

(4) For those who want it, receive an official Learning Life FDA certificate of completion for each year of service you satisfactorily complete as an FDA. The best performing FDAs are eligible for a certificate of completion with honors.

If you would like to apply to volunteer as an FDA, please complete this FDA application.  This application should take you no more than 15 minutes to complete.

If you are more interested in volunteering as an FD, please complete this FD application. This application should take you no more than 20 minutes to complete.

Thank you for your interest in helping to advance family diplomacy worldwide!
